The Website Fold and Where It’s Found

If you’re not familiar with the concept of the ‘fold’ in website design – consider that a long time ago in the print industry, newspapers such as the Buffalo News would run the most important stories on the front page – and ‘above the fold’ where they undoubtedly help to sell more newspapers.

That imagine line in website design has been very elusive in recent memory – with the resolution of computer monitors jumping from 1024 x 768 to 1680 x 1050 and higher as of late. But recently, I found a new fold and it’s device friendly and makes for great website design.

For the past year or so, the fold in my design has always been 650 pixels – and recently when demonstrating the new CooperSmith’s Pub and Brewing website, the site’s funnels were set above 678 pixels. It looked intentionally designed to fit an iPad. Now designing websites to look like iPad apps has become a value-added benefit of working with our website design team.
