Top Three Website Trends for 2012
Today we’re looking at some of the upcoming trends that we’ve noticed gaining some steam from the end of 2011.
1. Grid-driven layouts
My personally favorite – embracing the grid takes me back to the days at Rochester Institute of Technology and those early morning classes where we’d spend countless hours dissecting Gestalt theories. I think 2012 also marks the year where developers and designers further distance themselves as front-end web designers and back-end web developers.
2. Beautiful Typography
Another reason for the distinction between designer and developer – the sensitivity to typography. Clients will soon be able to notice the professionalism of front-end design by its typography. If you’re site is still married to Verdana, or Arial – you’re not getting a professional user-experience.
3. Huge Backgrounds
With ever increasing bandwidth, we’re seeing fewer patterns and large background images. We’ve finally found a use for those horrible client photos taken with an iPhone – just add blur and background-image tag. Perhaps the transparent PNG has something to do with this as well – but for now, we’ll score one for bandwidth.
