How to Get Great Client Feedback – Part 3
Ask Questions and Listen for Answers
If you’re a website designer and you’re serious about starting your own company or doing the freelance thing – the most important thing you need to learn is checking that ego at the door. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve been a website designer for 20 years and have been tempted to defend my work from time to time – but remember why you’re in business. You’re there to help people grow their business on the web. Put the customer first and understand their business as you would your own – ask questions, challenge the answers but most of all – listen. Don’t take notes. You’re a designer, you have a power tool of perception – use it. Learn to listen with your ears and hear with your eyes. If you miss something, ask again – don’t be bashful about asking someone to repeat themselves when the reality is that you were thinking about what you need to pick up at the grocery store.
